Sports Premium Grant

From September 2013 the government are allocating funding directly to primary schools to support the provision of quality PE/sport.

Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year.

'Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this' (DfE, June 2013)

We are working closely with a number of local primary schools and are supported through a service from The Harefield Academy (secondary school with a Sports Specialism). We have identified key areas to develop to ensure we further develop high expectations in PE and sport for our children.

Deanesfield Primary School plans to use the funding to:

  • Complete a PE Audit with a specialist

  • Hire a specialist PE teacher to work alongside teachers

  • Release teachers to attend training

  • Host a multi skills style festival for some pupils

  • Provide training for the PE Coordinator

  • Continue to deliver and expand the range of extra-curricular sporting opportunities

  • Introduce a new skills based scheme of work to improve the delivery of PE

  • Provide training for teachers to deliver new skills based scheme of work

The funding will impact our school by:

  • Increasing confidence in planning and delivering PE lessons

  • Improving knowledge of Physical Education for teachers

  • Improving the skills and fitness of the children in our care

  • Increasing the participation in extra-curricular opportunities

  • Increasing the range of opportunities for participation to engage all children
