GROUPCALL LETTER

What is Groupcall?

July, 2010

Dear Family

Email and Text Communication – Groupcall

We are improving the way the school communicates with parents. I am sure you can appreciate that the school needs to send you lots of information about your child, their class and the school in general, throughout the year.

We have previously sent text and email messages on a limited basis using Parentmail. The new system, Groupcall, gives us the ability to send messages to groups of parents more quickly and easily. All text messages sent from school will have “GROUPCALL” displayed at the top of the message and then our school name.

Nothing can replace a telephone call when it is needed and so email and mobile text messaging will be used more frequently but only in appropriate situations. Examples of this might be:
  • - Changes to school meetings or events
  • - Cancellation of after school activities
  • - Class trip reminders
  • - School closures of any kind
  • - Reminders for notes when pupils are absent

It will be much easier for us to get information directly to parents and be confident that the information has arrived. We will be able to see from school when the message has arrived in your phone and so we will know you have received it (you cannot reply via text to these messages). If your mobile phone was switched off and the message could not be delivered, the system will attempt to contact you by other means.

We may also choose in certain circumstances to send some messages in duplicate (ie. via text AND email). If we are asking for information, please provide that information in the normal way (ie. by telephone or by letter to the school).

A copy of this letter about the Groupcall facility will be available on the school website for your future reference.

We need your help to make sure this works as well as it should do. To allow us to make the best use of this facility, it is important that you keep us updated of changes to any of your contact numbers and email addresses. Please complete the tear off slip at the bottom of this letter with the email address and mobile number which you want the School to use as your main point of contact for text and email messages and return it to the School Office as soon as possible.

If you have any queries, please get in touch with the School Office.

Yours sincerely

J.E. McGrath (Mrs.)
