Our Curriculum

At Christ Church we plan a creative, cross-curricular and child-centred curriculum to meet the needs and interests of the children. We have a topic based approach to learning.  Each term a national curriculum subject drives the topic and links are made with other subjects. For further details about curriculum areas please click on the links below the topic overview.

EYFS Curriculum: We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (2012) in Reception class. For Maths we use the White Rose Hub

KS1 (years 1 & 2) Curriculum: We follow the National Curriculum 2014 for English, Science, History & Geography and Art & Design. We use the White Rose for maths. For PE we follow a scheme called Real PE but we are also fortunate to have a dance specialist who teaches each class on a rotational basis.

EYFS & KS1: For PSHE we follow the Jigsaw Scheme and for RE we base our planning on the Primary RE Curriculum Planning from the Diocese of Guildford. Please click on each link for further information.

Phonics: The Phonics Screeening Check is completed by children in Year 1 and some children take the test again in Year 2 if they do not pass in Year 1. We use a combination of the Jolly Phonics Scheme and the Letters and Sounds Scheme to teach phonics at Christ Church.

Reading Schemes: Children read books from a range of Reading Schemes including Oxford Reading Tree (Snapdragons, Songbirds & Floppy Phonics) and Collins (Big Cat Phonics)
