Our Special Education Needs Coordinator, Mrs Chadwick, is very experienced in this role and leads our provision for children with special needs from identifying the specific needs of the individual child to coordinating the support needed.
If parents have a concern, they should contact their child's teacher in the first instance and she will then discuss a way forward with our SENCO, who will arrange for assessments to be undertaken and appropriate support provided. If we are unable to provide the support by using the expertise of our existing staff, we will investigate training opportunities or the assistance of outside experts. We review each child's progress and needs regularly and adjust the support provided accordingly.
We aim to involve parents in decisions about the support their child will need and to give them every opportunity to work with us in supporting their child's education. This is accomplished through regular formal meetings with the SENCO and more frequent informal contact via the class teacher. It is only by building a good relationship with parents that we are able to ensure that each child makes the best possible progress.
Our Inclusion policy can be found here. Unfortunately, access around the building is problematic for children who use wheelchairs and parents should arrange to view the school and discuss any mobility problems with us before applying for a place so that we can seek ways of addressing any issues that may arise. We are making improvements to this situation as quickly as funding will allow.
