We place great emphasis on learning and understanding the geographical skills of; geographical study, fieldwork skills and map skills. We believe that through the acquisition of these skills, children can further develop their knowledge and understanding of places in their locality and throughout the wider world.

In Key Stage 1 children explore their local geography and compare their locality with another country in the world. They also explore how people travel around the world and why.

In Key Stage 2 children explore why people settle in different places around the world and how these settlements grow. They learn about and investigate physical geography.  They also explore local geography in great detail and the impact this has had on the development of Greater Manchester. A study of the diverse continent of Africa is used to look at a great variety of geographical features, settlements and animal habitats. Children also explore the sustainability of our planet and global environmental issues.
